FW: [NECC] First Ride of the Decade

NEW YEAR’S DAY RIDE

According to our time-honoured festive custom, we are once again invited to assemble at Big John and Ann’s on New year’s Day – 11:00AM for the first ride of 2010, followed by refreshments - BYOB/D/M etc.

Bring Your Own Bagel, Donut, Muffin etc, plus stuff to spread on them.

This will be an OTTY event (Operate The Toaster Yourself).

Coffee will be supplied by BJ who will man the espresso machine, with Ann adopting a supervisory role while drafting at the rear of the group.

Bring a bike appropriate to the conditions of the day – and if you are a real wimp just bring a B/D/M and come for the coffee.

4275 Vivian Road (between Kennedy and McCowan).

And yes – that would be Friday, January 1st, 2010.

IT'S NOT TOO EARLY TO THINK ABOUT OUR WINTER MEETINGS 2010

Thanks to Richard Nurgitz for the following suggestions for the Newmarket Eagles Continuing Education Program that were discussed at the AGM this past Tuesday. Please note that this message is not suitable for application of your usual speed-reading technique.

FIRST AND FOREMOST: YOU MUST REPLY TO RICHARD TO CONFIRM YOUR INTENTION TO PARTICIPATE AT: rnurgitz@gmail.com

1.     We will be holding a full day CPR and First Aid Course in the new year.  The program will be run by a Canadian Red Cross certified training group and will provide basic CPR and certification and first aid related to cycling injuries.  The program will be run on a Saturday, likely in early February.
At this time, we have not confirmed fees for the program, but it will likely be $50.00 per person. We can have 20 people maximum at the program, so if you are interested, you should contact me at rnurgitz@gmail.com as soon as possible to reserve a spot.
Please include your name, age, contact information (phone numbers, email), Saturday dates in February you would prefer, and if you have done a CPR course before.

I can't stress the importance of CPR training enough, whether for cycling or in everyday life.  At some time in your life, you may encounter an emergency situation that requires you to assist in a medical emergency or even save a life.

2.     On a lighter note: we will also run a Bike Maintenance and Equipment Program on one of our evening meetings.  The program will include: wheel maintenance, truing, gluing and changing tubulars, bottom bracket and head set maintenance, gear cable changing and general drive train stuff.
We are looking for volunteers with bike stands to help out and perhaps those interested in using their bikes for demonstration purposes.
You need to send an email to me (rnurgitz@gmail.com)if you are interested in the program, and also stating if you are able to be an instructor.
